COO + Lead Data Architect
Courtney began at Bethink just as it was born. She helped transform Beth’s successful freelance practice into a full-fledged digital agency — and now, she develops the systems and processes that maximize internal efficiency, sustain client relationships, and help keep Bethink at the forefront of the tech environment as Chief Operations Officer.
Courtney has worked in tech since Y2K, and in WordPress since version 2.8, with a specialty in user experience and user interface design, information architecture, and future-proofing in technology. Prior to her work with Bethink, she was the Training Webmaster for the Smithsonian Institution; Lead of User Experience for Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security; Information Technology Director for Feminist Majority Foundation and Ms. Magazine; and Chief Digital Officer of the National Museums of Asian Art. She also maintained a freelance practice alongside these roles developing websites and teaching tech skills-building courses for small clients.
An outspoken Open Data advocate, Courtney has spoken at conferences and taught classes, including WordPress training courses, around the world, and served on the board of the Museum Computer Network. She also launched and co-led the international WordPress Training Team and co-organized WordCamp DC and the WordPress DC Meetup before leaving the DMV area.
Courtney has two BAs, in English Literature and Women & Gender Studies, with minors in both Anthropology and Ethnographic Film, from University of California, Davis. She lives in Long Beach, California — with three cats, one dog, one chinchilla, one teenager, two adult stepdaughters, her partner, and an American Association for Museums Muse Award — and goes for a strong, earthy Pu-reh and Taiwanese varieties of Oolong tea.
